Moving to Pictou County

There’s just something about this place. The roots run deep. For those that left to pursue their dreams in other parts of the world and now find themselves living away, many former Pictonians share a common bond …the wish, the desire to return home.

It’s never been studied or quantified, but it is very real. The source of this magnetism is, perhaps, unique to each. It could be the sea, which sets the rhythm of Pictonians lives from the very beginning. It could be the landscape—the fields, forests and hills—where one can get lost in a sea of calm.

Maybe it’s because work here never seems that far from play, or because the work that built this place relied upon the land and at the same time inspired. Maybe it’s because the region flourishes today because of the comraderie and passion of its people.

Perhaps it’s because Pictou County is a community and it’s easy to get to know others, to be a part of something bigger—like a bigger family where laughter and song and music is important. And where you can always find someone with whom to exchange a look, a smile, a hello.

These same qualities have drawn many others to make Pictou County their chosen home.

For those moving or returning here, Pictou County is not just some idyllic place, static like a picture, nor is it just for those who have made their fortunes elsewhere. Pictou County is moving toward the future, strengthened by its traditional industries and well positioned for continued growth in new sectors that have emerged here. Pictou County provides real opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and families.

There is an abundance of available land, reasonably priced housing, good schools and post-secondary institutions and modern health care facilities. As a commercial service centre, the region is well serviced, enjoying urban amenities along with the charms of small town living.
